The iconic Waldorf Astoria Hotel opened its doors to New York in 1931 and has the honour to host every US president from Herbert Hoover to Barack Obama, the legendary Queen Elizabeth II, world-famous celebrities, and several foreign dignitaries. However, after years of serving, it was decided to give a facelift to this ageing beauty – so, the famed Waldorf Astoria was closed in 2017 for a multi-year renovation plan.
It’s been years now since the Waldorf Astoria shut its doors in order to transform the hotel into a hotel/condo development but during these years, much is changed in terms of luxury properties in New York and high-end developments’ arena. The Park Avenue property will re-emerge as a condo development, which was not in plans initially, until China’s Anbang Insurance Group Co. bought it with plans to convert a hotel portion into condos and apartments.
