The first ever electric “black cab” is launched today in Circus West, Battersea Power Station
Launched by the LEVC (London Electric Vehicle Company), the new electric taxis will be moving around London thanks to a new range-extended electric technology. During the launch ceremony in Battersea today, Chris Gubbey, the CEO of the LEVC, said: “After extensive testing, LEVC’s new taxi is ready to do the job it was made for: transport people around this great city of London safely, cleanly and stylishly. Better for passengers, more cost-effective for drivers, it will play a major role in helping to improve air quality benefiting all Londoners.
The designers of the plug-in cab opted for simple lines while blending a 1930s luxury saloon vibe to make journeys opulent and dynamic at the same time. The eco-revamp doesn’t stop here since the taxis will also feature a class-leading battery, proven electric powertrain, improved disability access features, and a hearing aid.
We couldn’t imagine a better place to launch the electric cabs, since Battersea Power Station, a London architectural landmark concedes perfectly with the heritage of the English black cab. Gubbey highlighted
“I am immensely proud of the work we have carried out so far: we have produced a new icon, the world’s most advanced electric taxi.”
Battersea Power Station perfectly combines old with new and is especially geared towards the challenges of the future. With almost 1,000 electric charging points planned, Battersea will adopt emerging technologies for the years to come.
TX hopes to bring revolution in London transportation by flocking London with 9000 zero-emission vehicles. Their mission is to contribute to cleaner air and a healthy lifestyle, without sacrificing the iconic design and the excellent service. Happy travels!
