London tops European holiday destinations in 2017
As the holiday season is upon us, international and British tourists are flocking to festive London to get the most out of this marvellous city.
London has been extremely popular, but not just for the holidays. London Gatwick has seen a record month as 2.9million passengers travel through the airport in November. Passengers from Hong Kong were increased by 75% % and those from Tianjin by 46.1% %. As Asia connections skyrocket, Gatwick is reaching 45.5 million annual passengers for 2017.
The annual Top City Destinations Ranking issued by Euromonitor International during the World Travel Market in London ranks London first between Europe’s travel destinations and third worldwide. Despite a turbulent year, London’s popularity not only remained high during 2017 but also managed to grow by 3.4%.
The top ten most visited cities are:
- HONG KONG: 26.6 million visitors
- BANGKOK: 21.2 million visitors
- LONDON: 19.2 million visitors
- SINGAPORE: 16.6 million visitors
- MACAU: 15.4 million visitors
- DUBAI: 14.9 million visitors
- PARIS: 14.4 million visitors
- NEW YORK: 12.7 million visitors
- SHENZHEN: 12.6 million visitors
- KUALA LUMPUR: 12.3 million visitors
According to a private survey, London is the most popular with Europeans travelling in large and small groups, with Barcelona, Lisbon, Rome and Paris shuffling rankings among different types of travellers. Moreover, Britain was also the top choice for British tourists who choose to travel and explore their country.
