Dubai to build futuristic Sky Pod system
Dubai has officially inked a deal with Skyway Greentech to transport people throughout the city with a new, fast, elevated pod system. Known as the Sky Pod network, the technology is combination of traditional suspended monorail and an autonomous personal rapid transit system, like ULTra at Heathrow International Airport.
The Sky Pod system was hinted at late last year and physical models of the recently announced Burj Jumeirah have included the Sky Pods in their displays.
The system will be able to accommodate both short and long distance travel in the emirate, potentially even linking up to Abu Dhabi.
A smaller model, the Unibike, can accommodate five people and luggage, and has a maximum speed of 150 km/h. The bigger mode, the Unicar, is intended for travel up to 200 km, and is more spacious, though it only carries up to six people.
It’s currently unknown as to where the Dubai Sky Pod system will go, but with less infrastructure required (a tenth compared to the Dubai Metro, for example), it’s likely that the Skypod network will snake through more areas of the city.
With property values increasing up to 41 per cent through a transit premium next to the Dubai Metro, there’s no telling how much the value of the city will rise once the Sky Pod network is operational.
From One Palm Dorchester Collection to Creek Edge, Dubai Creek Harbour, Copperstones has a variety of properties that already take advantage of the ‘transit premium’ in Dubai.
