Catch the London Design Festival at Battersea Power Station
The London Design Festival returns next week across London to celebrate and promote London as the design capital of the world. From September 15 to 23, venues and institutions across the city will host exhibitions, talks, workshops and presentations.
Battersea Power Station, the multi-billion development is participating in the festivities by hosting three amazing events at its premises. Specially designed for cultural purposes, The Village Hall and Circus West Village, Phase 1 of Battersea Power Station, will welcome the Royal College of Art (RCA), Carmen Constantine and London Potters.
RCA will be showcasing two new research centres for the first time in an exhibition called Design <> Research at The Village Hall at Circus West Village from September 21-23 The joint exhibition with the Intelligent Mobility Design Centre and Burberry Material Futures Research Group will include projects that explore the future of mobility and materiality. On September 21, visitors will be able to chat with the designers and researchers to understand how they use design skills and methods to research possible futures.
Demonstrating craftsmanship from the UK, the stunning showcase of London-based luxury brand Carmen Constantine’s high-end sculpted wire-stitched furniture edit, photography and mineral-scented candles and diffusers will be held at Battersea Power Station. Carmen Constantine’s journey will show the intricate detail and craftsmanship that goes into making bespoke hand-crafted cabinets accompanied by a multisensory, experience of film, smell, texture and touch. The CEO and Creative Director, Carol Wilson-Frith will give a talk about embracing your own artistic, exceptional creativity and remaining innovative and relevant in a continuously evolving industry.
London Potters will take part for the first time in the London Design Festival, with two selected showcase selling events shared over two weekends. The event will be held at Circus West Village Pop-up within the new Battersea Power Station development.
As part of the event the public will be invited to engage in an interactive ceramic activity, to create a growing modelled ‘Cityscape’ installation over the two weekends of LDF.
The selling shows – as it is in the ethos of London Potters’ events – features both established professionals as well as emerging talents and the exhibits reflect the diverse nature and adaptability of clay as a creative medium, with emphasis on innovative and original design. The range of contemporary ceramics on show span from purely abstract, decorative pieces to tableware that fulfils a practical function.
