Burj Jumeirah to rise in west Dubai
Strikingly tall and with an iconic design, Dubai has announced the immediate construction of a new observation and entertainment tower called Burj Jumeirah.
While not as tall as the Burj Khalifa or the planned Dubai Creek Tower, the Burj Jumeirah will be one of a kind, and will certainly raise the profile and property values of west Dubai, which aside from the Palm Jumeirah, Palm Tower, and Burj Al Arab, is distinctly lacking in iconic landmarks on the skyline.
The tower will rise to a height of 550 meters (1,804 feet), with a 360-degree observation deck, lounge, and restaurant at the top. Similar to the Burj Khalifa, the entire structure will be covered in a massive LED lighting installation, making impressive light shows possible.
The architecture of the tower is full of curves and waves, inspired by the sand dunes and oases of the deserts of the United Arab Emirates. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, the ruler of the Emirate of Dubai, is the partial inspiration for the tower, as the public plaza building that serves the base will have a massive art installation. The ruler’s thumbprint will be visible from above on the roof of the plaza.
The new plaza will host a new amphitheater, water fountain, and other cultural amenities for the new district and the Emirate.
