The Northern Line is extended to the regenerated Battersea Power Station area, which is considered as the major extension of a tube line since the Jubilee line was earlier extended in the late 1990s. The extension was planned to connect Kennington to Battersea Power Station, through Nine Elms Underground stations.
Transport for London (TfL) has confirmed that the first extension of the Tube is about to open as regular passenger trains will start running to Battersea Power Station from Kennington on September 20, 2021. It also means that travelling time has considerably reduced as passengers can reach from Battersea to the West End in just 15 minutes. It is announced that initially, there will be six trains per hour during peak time serving the passengers on the extension, which will be increased to 12 trains per hour by mid-2022. There will be five trains per hour during off-peak times, which will also be doubled to 10 trains per hour next year.
