Battersea awarded best commercial mixed-use future project in 2017

Battersea Power Station won the award for Best Commercial Mixed-Use Future Project award at the 10th Annual World Architecture Festival 2017 in Berlin. The Power Station, an iconic building that is currently being transformed into an innovative multi-billion project, will be London’s next prime address.

WilkinsonEyre, the global architecture practice, that headed the restoration and refurbishment of the Grade II* Listed icon collected the award while attending the ceremony in Berlin. The award is not only of great architectural importance but also proof of the high-end design and forward-thinking ideas that Battersea fosters. Turning a London icon into a top world-class residential, commercial, and office destination has required incredible attention to detail.

Phase 1 of the Battersea Power Station development has already been completed with Circus West Village being already populated by its residents and many diverse shops and eateries. Circus West Village has already won over the hearts of Londoners due to its amazing shops, engaging workshops, and unique pop-ups that attract people from all parts of the city.

One cannot doubt the unique character of this project, especially when the competition with other projects located in China, Qatar, Mexico, Lebanon, Iran, Australia, Brazil, Italy, and Saudi Arabia was fierce.

Sebastien Ricard, Director at WilkinsonEyre and lead architect for Battersea Power Station, collected the award and said:

“It is a huge honour to win this award for Battersea Power Station, one of the world’s most prominent buildings and a focus of global attention. Battersea Power Station demands highly skilled expertise across a variety of architectural disciplines, at which WilkinsonEyre excel.”

WilkinsonEyre re-designed the development by paying homage to the original designs by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott. Their plans maintained the visual drama the building projects will adding innovative design features such as atriums, turbine halls, and full-height glasses.
